A paedophile is a person who feels sexual attraction toward children. Acting on that attraction is a serious crime. Doctors and the law treat the attraction itself as a dangerous condition, not as a private taste. The word turns up in news, courts, and medicine. It is not quite the same as , though people mix them: paedophile names the attraction (to children, girls or boys); a is a man who has sexual contact with a boy. British spelling paedophile; American pedophile. Though actually, throwing this word at a teacher or a kind uncle as an insult is cruel and false — the job of caring for children is not the same thing.
