1. 1

A bibliophile is someone who loves books. That can mean loving to read them, but it often means loving the books as things too — hunting for old copies, fine paper, first printings, a whole wall of spines. It is a slightly fancy, word. In everyday talk people just say book lover. You will see bibliophile in shop signs, reviews, and among collectors. It is almost always warm, not an insult. Though actually, a bibliophile may care as much about the object in the hand as about the story inside, which is why the word sits a little closer to “collector” than “anyone who likes a good novel.” It does not mean the person works in a library; that job is librarian.
