A packer is someone whose job is to put goods into boxes, bags, or other containers, usually in a factory or a warehouse. After things are made, the packer puts them in, checks the number, and gets them ready to send out. It is practical hand work, and the word is ordinary job language, not fancy. You will see it on job lists: packer, warehouse packer, food packer. Picture a person at a table or on a line, not a designer and not the boss. Though actually, packer can also mean a person who packs a suitcase, or a machine that packs — same idea of “putting things in.” In older American English, a packer was also someone in the meat business, because meat-packing plants packed meat for sale. The dictionary sense you need first is still the factory or warehouse worker filling containers.
