Owlishly is how you do something when you look or act like that owl-person: slowly, staring, sitting very still, serious and clever. It is an adverb, so it tells you about the action, not the person as a label — he blinked owlishly, she peered owlishly over her glasses. The feeling is the same as owlish: round-eyed, , a bit solemn, sometimes comic. It is a writer’s word more than a spoken one; in talk people would more often say he looked like an owl.
