Something ovoid is shaped like an egg: rounder at one end, a little more pointed at the other, and fat in three dimensions — not just a flat outline on paper. People use it for stones, lamps, faces, fruit, cells under a microscope. It can also be a noun: an ovoid is an egg-shaped thing. Though actually everyday speakers often say oval for both the flat shape and the 3-D shape. Ovoid is the fussier, more exact word, the one a science teacher or a designer might reach for.
