    An overhand throw is the one where your arm goes up and over, higher than your shoulder, and then comes forward. Baseball, softball, American football, many ball games. The opposite is underhand (underarm), where the arm stays low and swings up from below. American sports writing likes overhand; British school sports and cricket often say for the same idea. It can describe the throw, the serve, or the way of bowling. There is also an overhand knot, where the rope itself goes over — same pieces, different job. Here we mean the throw. It is a plain how-you-move word, not a fancy one.
