If something is outspread, it is opened out flat, or stretched wide. A bird flies with outspread wings. A map lies outspread on a table. You can also use it as a verb — to outspread something — but that is less common; most people say spread out. The picture in the word is “spread, and all the way out.” It is a describing word, more at home in stories than in a chat. Though actually in loose talk, spread out does almost all the same work.
