Your outgoings are the sums of money that leave you on a regular basis — rent, food, bills, the bus, insurance. British English uses this word a lot, especially on forms and in careful money talk: “income and outgoings.” American English more often says expenses. It is almost always plural. One bill is not really “an outgoing”; the whole list of what you pay out is your outgoings. Though actually, the trap is sitting right next door: outgoing, without the -s, usually means a warm, sociable person. Same letters at the start; completely different life.
