OT is the written short form of Old Testament — the first part of the Christian Bible, and the Hebrew Bible that Jewish readers hold as scripture. It holds books like Genesis, Exodus, Psalms, and Isaiah. You will see OT in church notes, theology essays, and study Bibles, often next to NT for New Testament. People write the letters more than they say them; in speech, most people say “the Old Testament” in full. Though actually, the same two letters can mean other things on another kind of page (a workplace might mean overtime). In this entry it is only the Bible. If the surrounding words are books, verses, or church, it is the Old Testament.
