An orientalist is a person who studies the languages, history, and ways of life of countries that older European books called 'the Orient' — mainly West Asia, South Asia, and East Asia. In universities the word names a kind of scholar, especially from the 18th and 19th centuries, who learned Arabic, Persian, Chinese, and so on, and wrote about those places.

So orientalist is a study-word with some dust and some argument on it. It does not mean 'a person from Asia'.
