    Ordering is the way things are put — which one comes first, which one comes next — or the act of putting them that way. A teacher may change the ordering of names on a list; a computer person talks about the ordering of files. It is a slightly careful school-and-office word. In everyday talk people often just say order (“the order of the names”) and mean the same thing. Though actually, the same spelling has another busy life: ordering is also what you do in a shop or restaurant when you ask for food (“I’m ordering pizza”). That is not this meaning. Here we mean arranging, not buying.
