An optometrist is a person whose job is to test your eyes and then order glasses that help you see more clearly. You sit in a chair, read letters on a chart, and they change lenses until the letters look sharp. Today they may also order contact lenses. In many countries this is not the same job as a hospital eye doctor, who treats disease and can do operations.
