Ophthalmic means “about the eyes,” especially about eye illness and eye care. Doctors put it on clinic names, drops, and ointments: an ophthalmic hospital, ophthalmic surgery, ophthalmic solution. It is a hospital-and-textbook word, not a kitchen-table word. You would not say “my ophthalmic hurts”; you would say “my eye.” Though actually, English keeps several eye-words side by side, and often mash them together: ophthalmic is the medical adjective; the doctor is an ; the field is ophthalmology. None of these is the same as optional, which only looks a little like it on the page.
組成Borrowed from Latin ophthalmicus, from Ancient Greek ophthalmikós (“of or for the eyes”), from ophthalmós (“eye”) + -ikos (the adjective ending -ic).
