    Omega is the last letter of the Greek alphabet. The capital looks like a horseshoe: Ω. The small one is ω. Greek had two letters for an 'o' sound; this one was the long 'o', so they called it 'great o' — that is what the name means. The first Greek letter is alpha, so people say 'the alpha and the omega' to mean the beginning and the end, the whole story. Though actually you will also meet Omega as a Swiss watch brand, and 'omega-3' on food bottles; those uses borrow the letter's name. The letter itself is simply the last one in the Greek row, the way Z is last in English.
