An Olympiad, in the way most people meet it now, is one running of the modern Olympic Games — the Tokyo Olympiad, the Paris Olympiad. Sports writers use it when they want a slightly grander word than “Games”. Though actually, the old meaning was a stretch of four years: the time from one ancient festival at Olympia to the next, and Greeks even counted years that way. You will still see that older use in history books. For a , the live meaning is “this particular Olympics”. It is not a casual word; you would not use it for a school sports day.
