An old-world place or quality is attractive because it is old, or because it makes you think of the past. Writers love old-world charm: stone streets, slow dinners, manners that feel from another time. An old-world hotel is one you choose for that feeling. The point is beauty and atmosphere, not “this is broken” or “this is out of date.” Though actually, watch the capital letters. The Old World means Europe, Asia and Africa — the lands people in Europe already knew before they reached the Americas (the New World). That is a map-and-history use. The old-world in travel writing is the “lovely because it feels old” use. A little dressy; more in descriptions than in everyday chat.
