When we talk about a film or TV actor off-screen, we mean their life when they are not acting — not in front of the camera, not in the story. Magazines love this: who they date off-screen, whether two people who look in love on-screen are cold off-screen. The pair is on-screen: in the film or on the TV picture. Though actually, off-screen can also mean a sound or event that happens in the story but is not shown in the picture — you hear a door, you do not see it. For the meaning filed here, keep the actor in mind: this is the person when they have stopped acting.
「off-screen」指演員演戲以外的生活，也就是不在鏡頭前、不在劇情裡的時候。雜誌很愛寫這類內容，例如他們私下和誰交往，或螢幕上看起來很相愛的兩個人，私下是否感情冷淡。和它相對的是「on-screen」，指在電影或電視畫面裡。
「off-screen」還能指劇情中有聲音或事件，但畫面沒有拍到，例如聽到門響卻看不到門。那是另一個意思，這裡要想的是演員停止演戲的時候。
