An off-ramp is the short road that takes you off a freeway — a big, fast road with no traffic lights. You leave the fast lanes, usually slow down on a curve or a slope, and join a smaller road. In American English this is the everyday word; British English often says slip road or exit instead. It is called a ramp because that piece of road is often a slope. Though actually, not every off-ramp looks steep; some are almost flat. People who talk about and business also use off-ramp to mean “a way out of a plan,” but the word as filed here is the real road.
