    Off-air means a radio or TV programme is not going out to people right now. A station can be off-air at night, in a break, or because something has gone wrong. People also say a presenter is talking off-air when the microphone is off — that talk is not part of the show. It is everyday media English, not a fancy word. The pair is on-air (going out now) and off-air (not going out now).
