An occultist is a person who studies or practises the occult: hidden, mysterious arts that claim to work with magic, spirits, and forces you cannot see in ordinary life. That can mean charms, calling on spirits, secret knowledge, of a magical kind, and the like. The word does not mean a stage magician who does tricks for a show, and it does not mean a priest. It names someone who takes those hidden practices seriously, as knowledge or power. It is a fairly specialised word; newspapers and novels use it, while everyday chat often just says someone is “into the occult.”
組成From occult + -ist. Occult is from Latin occultus, “hidden”; -ist makes a person who does or follows that thing.
