Picture a route that somebody has made hard on purpose. Along it stand one thing after another: a wall to climb, a net to crawl under, tires to jump. Nothing fell there by accident; each one was put there. You meet them in order, you clear them one at a time, and until you have cleared them all you have not reached the end. The words name that whole route, never a single wall inside it.

noun · B2

A long line of problems, rules, forms or delays that you have to get past one by one before you can do the thing you are trying to do.
