    An obscurantist is a person who tries to stop ideas and facts from being known, or who wraps the truth in fog so that others cannot judge. The same word is also an adjective: an obscurantist policy, an obscurantist argument. Like obscurantism, it is formal and always . You would not call a shy this. You use it for a leader, a school of thought, or a style of writing that seems to hide more than it shows.
