A numeral is the written mark we use for a number. The number three is an idea in the mind; the numeral is the shape we put on the page: 3, or III, or 三. When people say Arabic numerals they mean the digits 0, 1, 2, 3… that most of the world with. Roman numerals are I, V, X, L, C, D, M — the old style you still see on clocks and in the names of kings.
Number is the amount; numeral is how we write it down. In loose talk everyone says “Write the numbers 1 to 10,” and nobody minds. In a careful maths class, those written marks are numerals.
The same word can be an adjective: a numeral system, numeral . That use is more textbook than street. The meaning actually meet is the written sign.
組成From Middle English numeral, from Latin numerālis, “to do with a number,” from numerus, “a number.” The noun also came through Middle French numeral.
