Food that is nourishing gives your body what it needs to stay strong and well. A nourishing soup, a nourishing breakfast: the word is a kind remark about the food, not about fashion or taste. A cake can be delicious without being nourishing; rice and vegetables can be nourishing without being . It is a slightly warm, caring word — you hear it from parents, from people talking about health, and in food writing. is a close cousin, but that one sounds more like a science class. Though actually, people also stretch nourishing a little: a nourishing book or a nourishing friendship means it feeds you in some other way, not that you eat it. The first meaning, about food and health, is still the main one.
