A nominee is a person whose name has been officially put forward for a job, a prize, or a duty. They have not won yet, and they may not get it — they are only on the list. Film awards, elections, and company boards all have nominees. The person who puts the name forward is the nominator; the person on the list is the nominee. Though actually, in money matters a “nominee account” is a more technical use: an account held in one name for someone else. This entry is the “suggested for a position or prize” meaning.
