Nightclothes are the clothes you wear in bed to sleep — , a , a nightgown. It is a cover word for the whole set, a little formal or old-fashioned. In everyday talk most people just say (British spelling) or pajamas (American spelling), or they name the one piece they mean. You pack nightclothes for a sleepover; you change into nightclothes before you get under the covers. They are not the same as a or dressing gown, which you wear over other clothes to walk to the door.
