    A nexus is a meeting point, or a tight web of links, between people, things, or ideas. It does not usually mean one simple one-to-one connection; it suggests several lines joining, or a whole net. A city can be a nexus of trade. A writer can talk about the nexus between sleep and memory. The word is formal and a little — news, essays, and law use it more than friends in a café. In ordinary talk, connection, link, or hub is almost always enough. In law, nexus sometimes means a link that is real and strong enough to count (for example, a tax link to a place). Business English has worn the word rather thin, so it can sound like a fancy way of saying “the important bit in the middle.”
