A newbie is someone who has only just started, especially with computers, games, or the internet: a new person in a game, on a forum, or in an office full of screens. Friends may say it kindly — “I’m still a newbie at this.” Strangers online may use it to tease. There is a harsher later spelling, , which often means “you are bad at this,” not only “you are new.” Newbie itself is informal. You would not put it in a school essay or a job letter unless you were being funny on purpose. It is the same idea as beginner, but it sounds younger and more internet-y.
