A neurologist is the doctor trained in : the scientific study of the nervous system and its diseases, and the care of people who have them. You might see one for seizures, headaches that will not stop, numbness, or illnesses that change movement or memory. In hospital language they are the specialist for the brain, spinal cord, and nerves who treats with tests and medicine, not with a surgeon's knife — that other doctor is a neurosurgeon. The sense you were given names the field; this word names the person in that field. It is a formal medical word. You will hear it at the clinic, not much in casual chat unless someone is telling you which doctor they saw.
組成From neurology + -ist (a person who practises that field). Neurology itself is neuro- (nerve, from Ancient Greek νεῦρον) + -logy (study).
