Negress is an old English word for a Black woman. You should not use it. Today it is usually considered offensive, or at best a dusty word from an old book or an old film. English once added -ess to mark a woman, as in actress; this was that pattern stuck on Negro. The kind, current way is to say Black woman — or, in a US setting, African American woman when that is what the person prefers. If you meet Negress in an old text, you are looking at the past, not at a word you should pick up and . Using it “just as a dictionary word” still lands as disrespect.
