To naturalize someone — or for someone to be naturalized — is to make a person born in another country into a citizen of this country. It is the verb that matches naturalization. Governments naturalize people; we often use it in the passive (she was naturalized), because the state is the one that says yes. It is a formal word. Friends would say She got her citizenship rather than She was naturalized. British spelling is often naturalise, with an s. Though actually, you will also see naturalize in science class: a plant or animal brought to a new place that then lives there as if it had always belonged is said to be naturalized. Same spelling, different job. The meaning you are learning here is the citizenship one.
