    In British and Australian everyday speech, a nark is someone who is friendly with people who break the law, seems to be one of them, and secretly tells the police what they are doing. It is a cold word — the group would spit it. It sits with words like grass and in that kind of English. Though actually, if you have heard American English, do not mix this up with narc (often spelled that way), which is short for a narcotics officer: a drugs police officer, not a friend on the inside. Nark in this sense is getting a little old, but crime stories still use it. It is slang, not school English.
