Name-dropping is the habit — or the one act — of mentioning famous people you have met, or some thin link to them, in order to look impressive. People use it (“I’m doing a bit of name-dropping”) or to show they dislike it (“enough name-dropping”). It is the -ing noun from name-drop. Informal, and a little sharp.
