1. 1

Something multipurpose can be used for many different jobs. A multipurpose hall might hold PE, exams, and the school play. A multipurpose tool is one thing in a bag that covers several tasks. It is practical, everyday English — you see it on product boxes and building signs more than in novels. It is not a grand word. Though actually, shops stretch it: “multipurpose” on a label sometimes means “please buy this for more than one reason,” not that it is truly good at all of them. British writing often keeps the (multi-purpose); American writing often runs it together. Same word.

    • Arguably the most potent version of that meme merges the heatmaps with a multipurpose version of the IQ bell curve, populated with three “wojaks” on the stupid, middlebrow, and supersmart bits of that curve. The liberal heatmap is paired with the figure in the meaty middle of the graph, while the conservative one fits with the narrower extremes of the IQ spectrum.
