Monotony is the boring itself — the quality of never changing. People use it most about life and work: the monotony of the same commute, the same tasks, the same days. You can try to break the monotony by changing something small. It is related to monotone (a flat voice), but monotony is wider: it names the feeling of a life or a job that does not move. A little ; in speech people often just say “it’s so boring” or “it’s always the same”.
