A monomaniac is a person whose mind has been taken over by one idea or one subject, so that they can barely think about anything else. The interest itself is monomania; the person who lives inside it is a monomaniac. In older writing it was a medical label. Now it is more often a sharp, way to describe someone who cannot let a topic go — a , a collector, a fan who has gone too far. It can also sit in front of a noun: a monomaniac stare, a monomaniac need to win. Though actually, calling a living person a monomaniac is if you only mean they have a hobby. Save it for when the one idea is running their life.
