A mnemonic is a trick you make on purpose so something will stick in your memory — often a sentence, a little poem, or a silly phrase, sometimes a picture in your head. “Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain” for the colours of the rainbow is a mnemonic. The point is not to sound clever; it is to give your brain a handle it can hold, for a rule, a name, a list, or a formula. Teachers and textbooks like the word; in ordinary talk you can say memory trick and be understood. Though actually it does not have to be words — a tune or a movement of the fingers can do the same job — but the ones students meet first are usually sentences.
組成From Late Latin mnemonicus, from Ancient Greek mnēmonikós, “of memory, for remembering.” That comes from mnḗmōn, “mindful, remembering,” from a verb meaning “to remember,” plus -ic, “of or about.”
