    Amnesia is a medical word for when someone cannot remember in the usual way. It can mean old memories are gone, or — and this is the messy truth films often skip — new memories will not stick, so each day fails to stay. A knock on the head, illness, or heavy drinking can bring it on. Doctors use the word; everyday people stretch it for “I forgot,” which is too loose. Forgetting your keys is not amnesia. It is a formal, clinical word, not a joke about a bad memory.
