When something is misshapen, it does not have the shape you expect. A misshapen apple may be lumpy or bent; a misshapen pot may have come out of the kiln with one side collapsed. People also use it about bodies — a misshapen foot, a misshapen nose — but that can sound unkind, as if the person is a thing that came out “wrong.” Doctors more often name the condition, or say deformed in careful talk. You will also hear it about ideas: a misshapen argument has been twisted until it no longer sits right. The word is a little old-fashioned and a little literary; in everyday speech people often just say the wrong shape or all bent.
