Misrepresentation is the noun: a wrong description of someone’s views or of a situation, usually one that feels unfair or done on purpose. In everyday English it is the name of the act, or of the false picture itself. In law it is a technical word: if you sell something and you give false facts, that can be misrepresentation, and the other person may undo the deal. Law books even split it into kinds — some careless, some innocent, some fraudulent — so the tidy idea “it is always a lie” is tidier than the courtroom. Outside court, people use it for spin, for ads that stretch the truth, and for “that is a misrepresentation of what I said.”
