To misreport something is to give the wrong story of an event or a situation — the facts come out , or mixed up. use it: a paper misreports a number, a date, or what happened in the street. There is also a noun, a misreport, meaning that wrong account. Unlike misrepresent, this word does not always mean someone meant to lie. A tired reporter can misreport by mistake; a bad source can lead a careful one astray. People still get angry, because the public reads it as truth. You misreport events and situations more than you misreport a single spoken line — that job belongs more to misquote.
