    Minorca is a Spanish island in the western Mediterranean Sea, one of the Balearic Islands, along with and . It is popular with British , and it is smaller and quieter than . English kept the old Latin-style spelling Minorca; the island's own name today is Menorca, and that is what you will see on Spanish signs and many travel ads. Though actually, the two spellings are the same place, not two islands. The English name comes from Latin Balearis Minor, “the smaller Balearic island,” next to from Balearis Major, “the larger one.” There is also a black chicken breed called a Minorca, named after the island; that is a side use, not a second island.
