A minimart is a small shop that stays open late — sometimes all night — and sells the things you grab in a hurry: snacks, drinks, milk, noodles, cigarettes, a toothbrush. It is much smaller than a supermarket and often sits on a corner, by a petrol station, or in a neighbourhood block. The word is everyday American and also common in some Asian English. British speakers more often say corner shop or convenience store, but they mean the same kind of place. Though actually the shop is not “mini” like a toy; it is simply not a big market. You would use the word in ordinary talk, not in a grand report.
