Minimally means “only a tiny bit” — the smallest degree that still counts, or as little as you can get away with. If a medicine helps only minimally, it barely helps. If you are minimally involved, you did almost nothing. It is a careful, slightly formal adverb. Doctors, scientists, and news writers like it because it sounds exact: “minimally invasive” means a small cut, not a big operation; “minimally acceptable” means it just by. Though actually in ordinary chat people more often say hardly, barely, or just a little. You will still meet minimally a lot in school writing, medicine, and official reports, where a short everyday word can feel too loose.
組成minimal (smallest possible) + -ly (turns an adjective into an adverb: “in that way / to that degree”).
