A mineworker is a person whose job is in a mine — a deep place in the ground where people take out coal, gold, or other stone. Most people simply say miner; mineworker is a slightly more official way to say the same thing, the kind of word you might see in the news, on a union banner, or in a report about pay and safety. The work is hard and often dangerous: dust, dark, and heavy machines. This “mine” is a workplace in the earth, not the sea-bomb in minesweeper. You use the word when you talk about jobs and the people who do them underground, not about fashion or food.
