A militarist is a person who believes in militarism: that the country should build up its armed forces and use them to protect itself and to get what it wants. As an adjective, militarist describes that view or those people: militarist policies, a militarist government. It names the believer, not the ordinary soldier. A conscript may hate war; a militarist wants military power to sit high in . In argument it is often a label others pin on you, not a job title you print on a card. Formal and political. Close cousin of militaristic; militarist more often tags the person or the camp, militaristic the flavour of a whole culture or regime.
