1. 1

Midyear is the middle of the year. Offices and schools use it a lot, often in front of another word: midyear exams, a midyear report, a midyear review. As a noun, at midyear means around the halfway point of the year you are measuring. For a calendar that runs January to December, that is near June. Though actually a school year or a company year may start in August, September, or April, so their midyear is the middle of that year, not always June. It is a practical, slightly official word. You meet it on notices and calendars more than in stories. It does not feel poetic, the way can.
