Micromanagement is the practice of running another person's work by controlling all the small details — so much that they feel watched, slowed down, and not trusted. It is the noun for what a person does when they micromanage. In an office story it names a style of leading: too many checks, too little room to decide. People use it to complain, in meetings and in articles about work; it is not a neutral badge. Though actually, careful teaching or safety checks can look similar from the outside. The word bites when the control is about power or worry, not about helping. Like the verb, it is not about managing a small firm. The 'micro' is the tiny bits of the task, not the size of the company.
