Microgeneration is when a person, a family, a farm, or a small organisation makes heat or electricity for their own use, instead of taking all of it from the big power company. Typical pictures: solar panels on a roof, a small wind turbine in a garden, a little water wheel on a stream, or a boiler that burns wood pellets. The 'micro' is about the size of the setup, not about atoms. You might still sell a bit of extra power back to the grid, though actually the core idea is making it close to home. The word is at home in energy policy, especially in places like the UK; ordinary people more often say 'solar panels' or 'our own electricity'. It is not a new generation of people (teenagers, say), and it is not making microscopic objects. Generation here is the old power-station sense: producing energy.
