A microbrewery is a small company that makes only a small amount of beer to sell, and it often has a place where you can sit and drink what they made in the next room — a bit like a restaurant and a factory in one. The word is for the company or the building, not for the glass of beer (that glass is often a ). It is a food-and-business word, not a science word, and it is fairly relaxed in tone. Huge beer companies are just breweries; the micro- is there to say “this one is small.” Though actually, there is no perfect line for how small counts as micro, and people argue about it.
